Q&A With Eddy Jessop

HEY! LET’S GET TO KNOW YOU A LITTLE BETTER. INTRODUCE YOURSELF AND TELL US MORE ABOUT YOU AS AN ARTIST

I’m Eddy! A freelance illustrator and graphic designer based in Leeds. I live with my partner Lewis and our big barrel of a child Rusky (An English Bull Terrier). I love all things retro, especially 70s counterculture which most of my work is inspired from!

If you could describe your collection in 3 words what would they be?
Retro, funky and colourful.

What does a day in the life look like for you?
I’d like to say I wake up super early but I definitely don’t. I normally wake up late, rush out of bed and run to the studio. I then start sketching straight away and do creative work in the morning as I find this is when I have the most ideas and energy. I tend to start doing more admin and social media work in the afternoon. Between all of this is a lot of procrastination and scrolling on my phone!

What’s a fun fact about you that you think would surprise people?
I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Anyone who knows me knows I wouldn’t hurt a fly!

What’s your favourite design from the collection and why?
Any of the psychedelic mushroom themed designs, I love a 70s retro themed illustration and my collection is full of them.

What’s on your bucket list?
Skydiving. I’ve got a huge fear of heights so I’d hate every minute of it but its something I’ve always wanted to do!

What’s been your favourite part of working with us?
Working with the skinny dip design team to bring this collection to life! They have been some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met and have been super helpful in getting my designs from paper to phone case. The whole process has been so fun and definitely something I'd like to do again!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
"No one who is great at something was always great at it" Wise words! I think its always easy to compare yourself to others so I always try and keep this advice in mind.

Tell us a bit about how the design process worked? What was key for you with regards to the final designs?
I try and sketch every day - it can be anything that comes to mind. I started with these random sketches and then worked them into developed concepts for the collab. I then digitise them, colour them and add textures to get that retro aesthetic that’s part of my style. I think the key for these designs was to just have fun with them and everything else would work out!

And lastly, and very importantly. What’s your death row meal?
It sounds awful but fried chicken. I’ve been vegetarian for years and its the only thing I’ve always missed!
