Q&A With Jessica Lee

Hey! Let’s get to know you a little better. Introduce yourself and tell us more about you as an artist.

I’m Jess, an illustrator based in Manchester, UK. My illustrations are usually around my personal interests: Food, Nature, and Dogs! The aim of my work is to make people smile through colourful palettes and fun narrative ideas.

What was the inspiration behind your collection?

The inspiration behind this collection is the Spring season. I wanted to create something fruity but with my favourite colour palette, pink and red!

Tell us a bit about how the design process worked?

For the design process, I draw on my iPad using Procreate. After having the idea of a Spring, fruity, pink and red theme. I went ahead and drew fruits that would fit within this colour palette: strawberries, cherries, apples, and watermelons. For the details, I love adding on smiley faces to everything!

What's your favourite design from the collection and why?

It’s hard to choose a favourite as I love them all individually! Each one is designed with a different layout in mind. The strawberry pattern is simple, but I love exploring smaller doodles within the grid idea, and the cherry duo making a heart sign is a popular choice on my instagram.

Where do you go when you're looking for inspiration?

My inspiration behind my illustrations usually come from my daily life and what I see. For example when I see my morning coffee mug, I think about all the different ways I can make it come to life and the narratives for this character.
